By Collin Binkley | Associated PressWASHINGTON — The Supreme Court has sent shockwaves through higher education with a landmark decision that struck down affirmative action and left colleges across the nation searching for new ways to promote student diversity.Leaders of scores of universities said Thursday that they were disappointed by what they see as a blow to diversity. Yet many also voiced optimism that they would find new ways to admit more Black and Hispanic students, despite evidence that eliminating the practice often leads to steep enrollment decreases among them.President Joe Biden said he disagreed with the decision and asked the Education Department to explore policies that could help colleges build diverse student bodies. He also pushed against policies like legacy preferences — admissions boosts given to the children of alumni — that tend to help white, wealthy students.“We should never allow the country to walk away from the dream upon which it was founded,...Small fire near Petaluma held by firefighters at 38-acres

The groups working to preserve a historic Black cemetery in Bethesda are going to continue their legal fight, and plan to take it to Maryland’s highest court. The move comes after a decision by Maryland’s appellate court that found the Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission can sell the parcel where the remains of hundreds of enslaved people are buried, despite the objections of the groups trying to preserve the property.“If this ruling is upheld on appeal, no traditional African American cemetery, no traditional Native American cemetery will be safe,” said Steven Lieberman, a lawyer who represents the Bethesda African Cemetery Coalition, Dr. Segun Adebayo, pastor of the Macedonian Baptist Church, and three descendants of people buried in the Moses Macedonia African Cemetery.Lieberman told WTOP that a previous ruling that stopped the sale of the property was correct. United led the way: 13% of its flights were canceled and another 47% were delayed as of 4:30 p.m. on Friday.United has blamed weather that started in the Northeast earlier this week, combined with a lack of air traffic controllers staffed by the Federal Aviation Administration. Delayed United Airlines passengers wait days for luggage in Denver But unions for both United pilots and flight attendants say United management shares much of the blame, pointing out no other airline has had as many cancellations and delays in the past week."And I feel badly, not only for the pain and suffering our passengers have had to endure, but also our e...Deco goes behind the scenes with DJ Cassidy, Shaggy and Rayvon on music video for ‘Piña Colada Song’ remake
