All but one Major League Baseball team will celebrate Pride Night this season as a show of support for LGBTQ+ fans. MLB has been a leader among the four major pro U.S. sports in hosting Pride Nights, in part because its regular season overlaps with Pride Month in June. Twenty-nine teams are set to welcome LGBTQ+ fans for designated games this season. Many adopt rainbow-colored uniforms patches or logos, set up special signage around ballparks and invite guests including community leaders and drag performers. This year, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., threw out a ceremonial first pitch at the Washington Nationals’ Pride game. The Texas Rangers are the only franchise that does not host a Pride Night. The team said in a statement to The Associated Press that it is committed to making everyone feel welcome and included, and “that means in our ballpark, at every game, and in all we do — for both our fans and our employees.”Pride Nights have drawn some push back in...Suspect in Club Q shooting expected to take plea deal

But Colorado law requires victims to be notified of such deals, and several people who lost loved ones or were wounded in the attack told the AP that state prosecutors have given them advance word that Aldrich wil...Denver weather: Cloudy start to Nuggets parade with afternoon storm chances

North Miami Beach Commissioner Jay Chernoff urged for an appeal hearing after Judge Peter Lopez reinstated Commissioner Michael Joseph following his removal earlier this year for boycotting meetings prior to the former mayor’s arrest and subsequent suspension from office. On Tuesday Judge Lopez ruled that the commissioner had not violated the city charter by participating in the boycott and stated that the city lacked the authority to remove its own members. Chernoff’s appeal hearing aims to challenge the ruling and assess the consequences of Joseph’s reinstatement. The appeal hearing, if granted, will provide an opportunity for Chernoff and his supporters to present their case before the appropriate judicial authorities.New airline planes will be required to have secondary barriers to the cockpit to protect pilots

U.S. officials said Wednesday they will require new airline planes to have a second barrier to make it harder for passengers to break into the cockpit when the main door is open. The Federal Aviation Administration rule will apply to commercial planes made after mid-2025.The rule will affect airlines that operate scheduled flights, but not charter operators. There is no provision requiring airlines to retrofit current planes.Officials called the rule an important step to give pilots more protection.“No pilot should have to worry about an intrusion on the flight deck,” said David Boulter, the FAA’s acting associate administrator for safety. The cockpit is more vulnerable to attackers when the door is opened for pilots to take a bathroom break or get their meals.A secondary barrier is intended “to slow such an attack long enough so that an open flightdeck door can be closed and locked before an attacker could reach the flightdeck,” the FAA said in the rule, published in the Federa...Latest news
